The DRM's RS-1 Gets a New Paint Job

These photos were taken on May 21, 1997, as the repainting of the Danbury Railway Museum's RS-1 nears completion. The locomotive is being painted as the RS-1's appeared in 1948 when they were delivered new to the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad.

It was an overcast (in fact, rainy) day, which accounts for the washed-out sky and some of the 'wet look' appearance of the paint. Most of the shine, however, comes from the brand-new paint.

The second photo was taken from one of the upper windows of the caboose, parked a couple of tracks away.

Close inspection of the last photo will reveal that the "New Haven" name isn't there yet. Repainting was not quite complete.
