Beginner Strings *9:00am 10:00am
*On July 6th and 8th, the Beginner Class will meet from 8:30am 10:00am. Attendance during the first two weeks of class is mandatory.
- This class is designed for children entering grade 3 and higher, including adults. No previous string playing experience is necessary to join this class. The class will provide students with group instruction to learn the basic skills necessary to play a string instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass). Parents are encouraged to observe the class. String Builder Book 1 will be used and may be purchased at local music stores. Students in need of an instrument may rent one at local music stores.
Novice Strings 10:00am 11:00am
- This ensemble is designed for students who have been studying privately for less than one year or who have had a full year of instruction in school. It is also an appropriate class for a string student playing at a more advanced level who is switching from one string instrument to another such as a violin player wanting to learn viola. The class will concentrate on the reinforcement of early skills. Music will be provided.
Intermediate Tuning Time
11:00am 11:30am
- Intermediate students arrive to get unpacked and tuned before class begins. Early arrival is suggested. This is a large class and many instruments need to be tuned.
Intermediate Strings 11:30am 12:30pm
- This class is designed for students who have been playing for two or more years. Students in this class must read music and be familiar with all first position notes. Music, appropriate to the level of the group, will be provided. Students should arrive early enough to get unpacked and tuned before class begins.
Advanced Ensemble 12:30pm 1:30pm
- Participants in this group must be able to shift into third position. This ensemble will study and perform standard string literature, and in the past has performed such works as Warlock's Capriol Suite, Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Bach's Third Brandenburg Concerto, Holst's St. Paul Suite and others. Advanced ensemble playing techniques and sight reading skills will be taught. Music will be provided.
Chamber Music Fridays 10:00am 12:00pm Workshop
- Members of the workshop must be enrolled in the string program.
Fridays will be devoted to a Chamber Music workshop. The workshop will include the study and performance of the standard string quartet literature. Depending upon enrollment, other types and styles of Chamber Music may be learned and performed. Participants in the workshop will be selected from registered students by audition (on a date to be announced). All registered string students, and their parents, are invited to observe the Chamber Music Workshop.
