Music Ensembles of the Danbury Music Centre

The Danbury Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ariel Rudiakov

is comprised of musicians who wish to engage in the performance of symphonic literature. Works of many styles and periods are performed each year, as well as performances with choral, opera and ballet groups. Membership in the orchestra requires a high level of proficiency commensurate with the demands of this literature. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7:30 - 10:00pm.

The Danbury Community Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Michael Smith

provides an opportunity for community musicians of all ages who have a measure of competence in playing their instruments to participate in an orchestral experience. Musical works of a wide variety of styles and periods are rehearsed, and two concerts are presented during the season. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Auditions for new members are held before the first rehearsal of the season.

The Danbury Concert Chorus, Christine R. Howlett, Music Director and Conductor

is an organization for adult singers which performs choral masterworks of various styles and historical periods. Rehearsals emphasize reading and studying these works. In addition to other concerts, the Chorus performs Messiah with orchestra each December. Experienced singers are welcome. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30pm.

The Danbury Preparatory String Orchestra, conducted by Glen Lebetkin

provides an educational ensemble for string players to prepare for playing in an orchestra such as the Danbury Community Orchestra. Students will study standard string repertoire appropriate to their level of playing. They will develop playing technique, listening skills, orchestral technique and ensemble experience. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00pm. There is a tuition fee to participate and financial assistance is available.  Contact the DMC Office for more information.

The DMC also offers a six week Summer Enrichment Program to help aspiring musicians, primarily young people and teenagers, in their musical development. (More adults are joining the summer groups every year.)There is a tuition fee to participate and financial assistance is available.
  • String ensembles - beginners to advanced students
  • Bands - preparatory, concert, symphonic, jazz
  • Chorus - children grades 3 - 6; young adults grades 7 - 12
  • West Afrikan Drumming - in order to portray a village scenario, children entering grade 3 – grandparents are necessary

The Danbury Music Centre also presents a fully staged production of the Nutcracker Ballet in December. All aspiring dancers in the community are invited to participate. The Tchaikovsky music is performed by the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.
