APGD: Who We Are

AIDS Project Greater Danbury (APGD) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1987 by Dr. Donald T. Evans and a group of local residents motivated by extreme concern for people living with HIV/AIDS and the impact of the AIDS epidemic in the Danbury area.

APGD is committed to providing comprehensive supportive services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones.  An active volunteer Board of Directors serves as the governing body while Executive Director manages the daily operations of the agency.  Client services include: Case Management, coordinating APGD services and outside agencies' services; a residence and residential staff; community housing referrals; Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling;

In keeping with our mission and to better serve our community, APGD in 2002, expanded services to include HIV Counseling & Testing, Youth & Community Outreach and Education, and a Needle Exchange Program.

APGD does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.  All services are provided confidentially.

Our Mission

The mission of AIDS Project Greater Danbury is to advocate for and provide supportive services to people living with HIV/AIDS, their families, and loved ones and to actively promote AIDS education and prevention in the community.

APGD's professional staff will meet this mission through the utilization of individualized case management, community and youth outreach activities, HIV testing and counseling, and a needle exchange program.  In order to address the bio-psycho-social needs of each client, the case managers will provide a comprehensive needs assessment, referrals to APGD mental health and substance abuse counseling, housing, as well as, the coordination of community resources.  The prevention component will provide outreach and education for the purpose of reducing the transmission of the AIDS virus.

APGD is the fiduciary agent for state and federal funds that are disbursed on a local level. This is referred to as the local area Ryan White Consortium. The Ryan White Consortium is a local network of service providers from different disciplines of medical and non-medical professions who have come together to act as one body in the provision of care. This Consortium is responsible for the identification of client needs and for ensuring a high quality in the delivery of services.
