Frederic Chiuís "compelling artistry" and "electrifying technique" led to a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1996. His specialty is the early romantic piano repertory and Chiu has recorded, to abundant rave reviews, the etudes and mazurkas of Chopin, the complete solo works of Prokofiev, and the music of Liszt. Chiu has been described as "a pianist with an unassuming stage presence and an assured playing style that is rich, clean, pure, dramatic and intimate, as well as technically astounding."
