Our "main line" (the single lead that connects to Metro-North's trackage) has a few kinks after the first weekend of track work by DRM's intrepid track crew.
However, Metro-North's track adjacent to ours seems none too straight!
(Hint: The 210mm telephoto lens greatly foreshortens both pictures,
making bends in the track seem much worse than they are.)
Bill Guider watches with tape measure in hand as the back hoe moves our lead just a foot or so, to position it properly relative to Metro-North's track. Aligning the track into a smooth curve involves much movement to and fro by the back hoe, moving the track just an inch or two in each location.
Adjustment is almost complete in this photo. The tape measure verifies that the track is in the proper position.
As this view of the turntable pit shows, we still have quite a clean-up job ahead before we can turn a locomotive.
