Participants of T.A.R.G.E.T. recently visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
T.A.R.G.E.T. is an after school substance abuse prevention program for youth residing in the Laurel Gardens community. Funded by the The Fairfield County Community Foundation, United Way, and area corporations T.A.R.G.E.T.'s goal is to lower the incidences of substance abuse and juvenile delinquency in this particular area of Danbury. Activities are focused on educational matter that will achieve this goal, as well as recreation. Group discussions are held with the participants on topics such as healthy choices, positive decision making, and communication. The youth also engage in arts and crafts and organized athletics. Periodically, the group takes field trips to various areas outside of Danbury, including Blue Jay Orchards for pumpkin picking, and New York City to the the Nutcracker ballet.
