It is with regret that the Danbury Music Centre Board announces that Nancy F. Sudik, Executive Director, will be retiring in June of 2014. The DMC has begun a search for a new Executive Director. Anyone interested in applying for this position may email the DMC for a packet of information to include the job posting, job description, Danbury Music Centre Mission Statement and season calendar.

Executive Director Posting

The Executive Director provides effective leadership and management of the human and financial resources of the Danbury Music Centre (DMC) consistent with the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors in order to achieve the Music Centre’s mission and vision. The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the organization including: planning, operations, program implementation, budgeting and financial management, marketing, public relations, and community engagement. The Executive Director must be an articulate advocate for the value and importance of classical music for the greater Danbury community. The Executive Director serves as the chief operating officer, and reports to the Board of Directors through the Board President.


The Executive Director:

  • Provides impetus and support to the work of the Board of Directors, working together to develop the DMC’s vision
  • Assures that the Board and its committees have the information needed to work effectively on behalf of the organization
  • Ensures that the DMC complies with corporate and legal requirements
  • Serves as chief spokesperson and represents the DMC throughout the community, encouraging partnerships and collaborations that advance the mission of the DMC
  • Speaks to large and small audiences while promoting DMC events
  • Supervises office staff and volunteers

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Leadership skills with a record of success in executive or senior management
  • Experience with not-for-profit organizations (preferred)
  • A working knowledge of classical music and repertoire. Performance experience as an instrumental or vocal musician will be considered an asset.
  • A background in arts administration (preferred)
  • Familiarity with local culture (preferred)
  • Organizational and financial skills
  • Successful fundraising and grant writing experience
  • Knowledge of concert production
  • Working knowledge of computers and an enthusiasm for embracing new technology
  • Interpersonal skills and experience in working with a volunteer Board of Directors
  • Supervisory skills and the ability to foster teamwork among staff, volunteers and members
  • Integrity, maturity, professionalism, optimism and high energy
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
