SeniorNet -  Who Are We...?

The Danbury SeniorNet Learning Center (DSLC), serving the greater Danbury area, provides a friendly, low-pressure environment where students can learn to use computers and share computing experiences. DSLC is building a community of computer literate adults to bring them access to technology and to empower them to share their time-tested knowledge and wisdom. Our classroom provides each student the use of an IBM compatible computer with Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Works 2003 for applications instruction. Additionally, the student experiences the World Wide Web (Internet) and E-mail basics through actual on-line activity.

The DSLC is part of SeniorNet (www.seniornet.org), a nationwide organization that proudly serves over 240 learning centers and 40,000 members in the U.S. The Danbury Center opened in January 1999 at the Danbury Senior Center, 80 Main Street. Since then, over 1,000 area residents have graduated from our programs, all eagerly looking for ways to use their new skills.

SeniorNet grew out of a research project begun in 1986 by Mary Furlong, Ed.D., Professor of Education at the University of San Francisco, to determine if computers and telecommunications could enhance the lives of older adults. Now a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, SeniorNet receives its support from foundations, corporate sponsors and individual members.
