Mission Committee
met on Sunday, May 27th, made plans for the summer and fall and also welcomed
new members Alan Zachary and David Hoenicke.
We revisited our
decision about the Tag Sale at the suggestion of Addie and me. It was decided we
would try and have it during
JULY ON THE 27TH
as there is a baseball tournament at the school next door from July 3-31st. We
thought this would bring a lot of traffic our way. Being that we are air
conditioned, we thought this might make a good break for the parents attending
the tournament. Having it during the summer will also allow us to accept items
over a couple of weeks (subject, of course, to Montessori's schedule for its
usually summer painting, etc.) and place them in the big room downstairs. If
this presents a problem, we will accept items the week before as we usually do.
We will keep you posted.
We also plan to
have food and tentatively there will be hot dogs (grilled), smoothies, bottled
water, ice cream and either fruit salad or fruit on a stick. Further
suggestions welcome on the food. Please let Addie or I know if you are able to
contribute items, help organize and price, set-up or clean-up or work on the
27th.
Of course, as is
our custom, inserts will appear in bulletins prior to the event. This will make
our Mission Sunday in November less hectic and more focused.
REMINDER: THE THIRD SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH
is Habitat workday for Tower Road build for the churches of Brookfield. Sign-up
on mission easel. There's room for two or three from each church.
At our meeting we
also decided on some contributions. First, we will provide seed money to the
tune of $300.00 to Family and Children's Aid to start a new fund for its clients
with regard to the outpatient clinic and second, $150.00 will be given to the
Vacation Bible School in Brookfield.
We have a couple
of additional requests to go before Session for contributions from the Mission
Stewardship budget which you have so generously given to us again this year.
Looking ahead to
the fall, we will continue our hunger focus with World Food Day, support the
youth in their UNICEF box collection, and talk about the 2 cents a meal program
of the PHP (Presbyterian Hunger Program), one of the One Great Hour of Sharing
recipients. We've also received information already about the Souper Bowl of
Caring scheduled for February 3, 2008!
Thanks go to all
of you who continue to provide meal pans, make the sandwiches and set aside your
plastic grocery store bags for Dorothy Day. Every time we take our
"bag" collection in, they need them right away so little things mean a lot!
Blessings,
Judy Cunningham
and Addie Sandler, co-chairs
