Miozotis Galarza-Ramirez, M.A.

Miozotis Galarza-Ramirez is the new Director of AIDS Education Services at Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury.  For about (5) five years, she worked as a researcher in an HIV/AIDS prevention project for young women in Puerto Rico.   In the project, called "Our Voices against HIV/AIDS", she collaborated in developing, implementing and evaluating an empowering intervention for this population.  She also worked at Fundación SIDA de Puerto Rico (AIDS Foundation of Puerto Rico), where as facilitator, she gave workshops on clinical aspects of HIV/AIDS, human sexuality, communication skills, and barriers for prevention.  These different workshops were implemented in schools, community and private organizations.  More recently, she worked as a bilingual counselor and family advocate at the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford, CT.  For three years, she assisted individuals and families who have experienced domestic abuse through counseling, support groups, case management, court advocacy, crisis intervention, and community education.   She is fully bilingual (Spanish) and holds a Master Degree in Social-Community Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico.  She has presented her research and work at different conferences in the United States, Canada and Latin America, has written many articles and has also published her master thesis work.
